Au bout de la jetée à Grandcamp, on se trouve nez-à-nez avec ce cylindre de métal blanc tout rouillé. C'est tout ce qui reste du phare qui éclairait l'entrée du port.
Pas bien photogénique, mais en Noir et Blanc, on arrive à en faire quelque chose de passable.
C'était voilà 62 ans cette semaine.
Le 16 Avril 1947, à 9:12 du matin, dans le port de Texas City au Texas, le cargo "GRANDCAMP" explosa et causa un terrible incendie. 581 personnes périrent, 2.000 se retrouvèrent sans abri, et plus de 500 maisons furent détruitent. Le port de Texas City ne s'en remettra pas, et Houston devint le grand port texan.
Qu'est-ce qui a causé cette explosion? Et qu'est-ce qu'un bateau qui s'appelait le "GRANDCAMP" pouvait bien faire au Texas en 1947?

On April 16, 1947, at 9:12 AM, in the port of Texas City, Texas, the freighter S.S. GRANDCAMP exploded and started a horrible fire. 581 people died, 2000 were left homeless and more than 500 homes were destroyed. The port of Texas City never recovered, and Houston became the busiest port in the area.
What caused this terrible explosion? And what was a ship named GRANDCAMP doing in Texas in 1947?
