Granville:Vert sur bleu /Le Défi des Ports de Pêche

Chalutier vert sur fond de mer bleue, quelques vaguelettes laissées par un bateau qui passe, et voilà. --------------------
Granville accueille la 24e édition du Défi des Ports de Pêche du 31 mai au 5 juin 2011.

Cette année, les équipes viendront des ports de Cherbourg-Hague, Etaples, grandcamp-Maisy, Granville, Grau du Roi-Port Camargue, Ile d'Yeu, La Tremblade - Ronce les Bains, La Cotinière - Ile d'Oléron, Lorient, Palavas les Flots, Pays Bigouden, Pornic, Port en Bessin, Royan, Saint-Jean de Luz - Ciboure et de Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue - Val de Saire.

Dans le bassin à flot, le Belem et le Marité vous attendent pour des visites, la flotte des voiliers du Défi avant et après les régates sera haute en couleurs, et les animations ludiques raviront petit et grands...
Sur les quais, retrouvez : le village des pêcheurs, les expositions sur les bateaux historiques, les démonstrations culinaires et dégustations de produits de la mer, et les festivités musicales.

Durant une semaine, les professionnels de la mer vont s’affronter dans une série de régates (aller retour olympiques et parcours côtiers) toujours très disputées dans le meilleur esprit sportif. Ces courses en flotte monotype, courues à bord de Grand Surprise, par des équipages de six navigateurs seront placées sous l’autorité de la Fédération Française de Voile et managées par le Yacht Club de Granville.

Le village des pêcheurs sera le théâtre de présentation de produits de la mer granvillais mais aussi de toutes les côtes de France. Des dégustations offertes au public, conseils de préparation et démonstrations de recettes de poisson, coquillages et crustacés seront à l’honneur tous les jours sur les stands du village.

Cette manifestation est aussi l’occasion pour tous les ports de pêche de mettre en valeur leurs attraits touristiques ainsi que la qualité et la variété de leurs produits, dans le village des pêcheurs où chaque port disposera de son espace.

Le Marité, dernier morutier en bois existant, a choisi Granville comme port d’accueil pour achever sa restauration et poursuivre son exploitation. Et c’est naturellement lors du Défi des Ports de Pêche qu’il jettera l’ancre.

Granville hosts the 24th Fishing Port Sailing Challenge from May 31st to June 1st.

This year, the sailing teams are coming from the ports of Cherbourg-Hague, Etaples, Grandcamp-Maisy, Granville, Grau du Roi-Port Camargue, Ile d'Yeu, La Tremblade - Ronce les Bains, La Cotinière - Ile d'Oléron, Lorient, Palavas les Flots, Pays Bigouden, Pornic, Port en Bessin, Royan, Saint-Jean de Luz - Ciboure and Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue - Val de Saire.

In the harbor of Granville, two historic tall ships, the Belem and the Marité, will be opened for tours, the flotilla of racing boats, both before and after the races, promises to be quite colorful, and there will be tons of activities for young and not so young.

On the quays, you will find the Fishermen's Village, exhibits on the tall ships, cooking lessons, tastings of the local seafood, and of course, all kinds of concerts and shows.

For a week, fishermen will race in a set of regattas in which the competion is traditionally very sportsmanlike. Each team is made up of 6 sailors, and they all race on the same type of boats, the Grand Surprise, under the watchful eye of the Granville Yacht Club.

In the fishermen's village, fish and shellfish from all the competing ports will be available every day, with tastings, cooking tips, and recipes. And they will offer all kind of information about their towns and their regions.

The Marité, the last sailing ship to fish for cod, restored in St-Vaast, has chosen Granville as his new home port and will drop anchor for the week of the Challenge.

Grandcamp: Jetée ouest /Fête du Nautisme

A l'entrée du port de Grandcamp, la jetée ouest, telle qu'elle était avant sa reconstruction. Construite dans les années 1920, elle avait souffert de gros dégâts au cours de fortes tempêtes hivernales.

Ce dimanche 15 mai, à Grandcamp-Maisy, c'est la Fête du Nautisme à l'Ecole de Voile intercommunale, Quai Crampon.

Au programme:

Toute la journée :

• Exposition de peinture sur le thème de la navigation par Les Artistes du Musoir Grandcopais
• Exposition des travaux des Accueils de Loisirs sur le thème de la mer
• Présentation des travaux de restauration effectués sur le vieux grée-ment La Grandcopaise par l’association du Torbouai du Bessin

Dimanche matin :
• 9h-11h30 : Sortie en mer de la Grandcopaise et des voiliers pavoisés du Club des Plaisanciers Grandcomaiserais (CPG)
• 9h-12h : Initiations gratuites au catamaran et au kayak de mer
• 10h-11h30 : Atelier de fabrication de cerf-volant (5€)
• 10h30-11h30 : Démonstrations de sauvetage avec des chiens par le Club Français des Chiens Terre-Neuve
• 12h : Verre de l’amitié

The west jetty, at the entrance to the harbor of Grandcamp, as it stood before its reconstruction. Built during the 1920's, it was weakened by strong winter stroms and had to be torn down.

This Sunday, May 15th, Grandcamp-Maisy celebrates its marine heritage with a festival, the Fête du Nautisme. the activities will take place at the sailing school and at the harbor, and will include excursions at sea by the Grandcopaise, the local historic sailing ship, catamaran and sea kayak classes, various exhibits, a sea shanties concert, instruction on building and flying a kite, and much more.

Grandcamp: Reflet portuaire / Le mât de La Grandcopaise

Dans le port de Grandcamp, un chalutier se reflète dans le miroir du bassin.

On vous a tenu au courant de la reconstruction du mât de La Grandcopaise, le vieux gréément de Grandcamp, et cette fois, l'histoire se termine: Le mât est en place.

Ça a pris une vingtaine de bénévoles et quatre heures de travail: Acheminer un bout de bois de plus de 16 mètres depuis la Tonnellerie à Maisy jusqu'au port, cela n'a pas été facile, surtout pour négocier les virages.

Et bien sûr, pas question de fixer le mât sans grue.

Après son radoub, il y aura encore beaucoup à faire, le radar, le matériel de navigation, les branchements électriques, les haubans, tout ça avant sa première sortie en mer.

We told you about the construction of the new mast of the Grandcopaise, the historic fishing boat of Grandcamp, and now the story comes to an end: The new mast has been installed.

It took about 20 volunteers and 4 hours of hard work: Driving a 50 foot mast from the workshop in Maisy to the harbor in Grandcamp was not easy, especially in the tight turns.

And of course, it would have been impossible to erect the mast without a heavy crane.

After the cleaning, there will still be a lot to do, the radar, the navigation tools, the electrical connections, the spars, all that must be installed before she goes out to sea.

Les dernières nouvelles sur le remplacement du mât de La Grandcopaise, le vieux gréément qui fait la fierté de Grandcamp:

Mercredi 6/10/2010, vers 10h30 un bûcheron de 90 printemps s'avance tranquillement vers l'arbre, regarde rapidement les alentours, il sait !, sans se presser il commence son travail. Comme à l'ancienne il procède au nettoyage des racines afin de couper l'arbre au plus près du sol, évitant ainsi de laisser derrière lui, après l'abattage, une grosse souche. Une heure plus tard, l'arbre s'incline devant le bûcheron pour toucher le sol, comme pour le remercier du travail bien fait, à l'endroit qui lui était réservé.

Fin Octobre 2010: Le "bout de bois" est bien arrivé à Grandcamp. Deux heures de manoeuvres, subtiles et précises pour parvenir jusqu'au hangar prévu pour le travail de façonnage. Beaucoup de bénévoles étaient présents, des amis des vieux gréements aussi et des "voisins" qui n'ont pas tardé à également mettre la main.

Fin Décembre 2010: La Grandcopaise a perdu son mât: Il vient d'être démonté, en préparation de la pose du tout nouveau, actuellement en cours de façonnage dans un hangar de Grandcamp-Maisy. L'équipe a travaillé sous la neige et dans le froid toute la matinée. Le vieux mât sera positionné à côté du nouveau et servira de modèle.

Last news of the replacement of the main mast of the Grandcopaise, the historic sailing ship that is the pride of Grandcamp:

Wednesday, October 6: At around 10:30 am, a 90-year old lumberjack walks softly to the chosen tree, a douglas fir, observes the surroundings, and, armed with a chainsaw, slowly starts his work. Just like in the old days, he clears the area around the roots, so that he can cut the tree close to the ground, without leaving a stump. One hour later, the tree gently leans over and comes down right in front of him, as if to thank him for a job well done.

End of October: The Big Stick has arrived in Grandcamp. Two hours of work, subtle and precise, to coerce the huge log into the warehouse where it will be shaped into a mast. Many volunteers came to help, along with quite a few neighbors and friends of the old ship.

End of December: La Grandcopaise lost her mast: it was just taken off to prepare for the arrival of the new one, now being built in a warehouse in Grandcamp. The old mast will be placed next to the new one, to serve as template. The crew worked a whole morning in the snow and the cold.

At the Chateau of Grandcamp, Dominique opens her arms to welcome you. The bedroons, all named for garden flowers, warmly and cozily decorated, open on the courtyard where a lazy dog sleep and a few chickens roam. Beyond the yard stands the stone house of the chateau where the copious and delicious breakfast is served in a dining room filled with antiques.

You will spend the night in a calm and serene environment, surrounded by meadows, just outside the village, and you will have the pleasure to savor Dominique's wonderful jams and pastries.

Avis aux amateurs de la pêche au gros ! Jean-Marie propose pour le samedi 5 juin, une "sortie pêche" sur la Grandcopaise, le vieux gréément du port de Grandcamp. Les conditions seront les plus réalistes possibles c'est à dire que l'Association Torbouai du Bessin ne promet pas le saut automatique du poisson dans le bateau. Il faudra le mériter et faire preuve d'une technicité à toute épreuve. Mais tous les amateurs d'une sortie au bon air sont acceptés ! Chacun vient avec son matériel, canne, mitraillette... Départ 14h00, retour 19h00 S'inscrire auprès de Laurent au Chalet.

To all sport fihermen: Jean-Marie is scheduling a fishing trip on June 5th aboard the Grandcopaise, the historic sailing ship of the port of Grandcamp. This will be the real thing, as the Association Torbouai du Bessin will not train fish to jump on board! Fishermen will have to work for their catch, but those who are just in need of a bowl of fresh air are all welcome! Of course, you must bring your own fishing equipment ...
The Grandcopaise will leave at 2 PM from her berth in the harbor at Grandcamp, and expects to return at around 7 PM. Please register with Laurent at the chalet on the harbor.

C'est en fin d'apès-midi que les couleurs des coques des chalutiers de Grandcamp sont les plus belles, et les plus photogéniques!

le dernier billet sur Grandcamp racontait les origines de la Grandcopaise, jusqu'à son abandon dans le port de Grandcamp.

Sa destruction étant alors envisagée par les services de l'Equipement, plusieurs personnes se sont mobilisées pour sauvegarder cette belle coque, quasi unique en Basse-Normandie. Au mois de juillet 1990, l'"ASSOCIATION DES VIEUX GREEMENTS TORBOUAI DU BESSIN" a été créé. Le navire a été acheté en l'état pour un franc symbolique par la commune de GRANDCAMP-MAISY, puis confié à l'Association.

Les travaux de renflouement et de restauration ont commencé, le nom de "GRANDCOPAISE" a été retenu en remplacement de "FRANCK-YANNICK". Les travaux se sont achevés en mai 1993 et le permis de navigation a été accordé en juin 1993 par les AFFAIRES MARITIMES DU QUARTIER DE CAEN.

Depuis, l'Association mantient ce joli bateau, grâce à un groupe de bénévoles très dévoués, dont la seule récompense est de sortir en mer, hisser les voiles, et naviguer comme autrefois dans la baie. La Grandcopaise participe aussi aux manifestations nautiques de la région.

In the last post on Grandcamp, we wrote about the origins of La Grandcopaise, a historic sailing ship, until its sinking in the harbor of Grandcamp.

As the administration was planning its destruction and removal from the harbor, a few history buffs and sailing enthusiasts proposed to save the hull, by now unique in Normandy. In July 1990, the ASSOCIATION DES VIEUX GREEMENTS TORBOUAI DU BESSIN was formed. The ship was purchased for a symbolic franc by the municipality of GRANDCAMP-MAISY, and given to the Association.

The volunteers were then able to start the restoration work. The "FRANCK-YANNICK" was becoming the "GRANDCOPAISE". She was ready to sail in May 1993, and obtained her sailing permit in June of that year.

Since then, the Association has managed and maintained the ship, thanks to a group of dedicated volunteers, for whom the only reward is to go out to sea, set the sails and navigate in the bay, just like in the old days. The Grandcopaise also participates in most of the maritime celebrations and festivals in the area.

Le port de Grandcamp a connu une histoire tumultueuse: son ouverture, en 1926, n'est venue qu'après de très longues années de négociations. Après la guerre, l'orientation vers le tourisme fût longtemps opposée par la municipalité, craignant que des hordes d'envahisseurs estivaux changeraient le caractère du village.
En fin de compte, les "modernes" gagnèrent, le port de plaisance fût construit en 1976, en agrandissant le bassin de pêche vers l'ouest par un bon tiers.

Aujourd'hui, le port de plaisance offre 248 places à flot, dont 15 pour les visiteurs.

The harbor in Grandcamp has been through a stormy history: Its opening, in 1926, came only after long years of negotiations. After the war, the shift to a local economy based on tourism was slow in coming, the municipality favoring the fishing industry and fearing that an invasion by hordes of vacationers would ruin the character of the village.
In the end, the "moderns" won out, the marina was built in 1976, by expanding the fishing harbor by a good third to the west.

Today, the floating docks offer 248 places, including 15 for visitors.

Voilà un an qu'on se promène sur les côtes de Normandie, de l'est à l'ouest, de port en port, de plages en falaises.
Alors, on fait une petite pause, on montre quelque chose de différent, et on se passe de petite histoire.

Ces reflets, c'était dans le port de Grandcamp. Un ciel bleu, un bateau à la coque rouge bordée de jaune. C'est tout.

Barfleur: Reflets Bleus

Alors, pour changer, voilà quelque chose qui fait moins carte postale, et on fait un petit détour dans l'abstrait...

C'était à Barfleur, au bord du quai, à marée haute...Deux chalutiers, une petite barque, des bleus qui se déclinent en tonnes de teintes...

Barfleur était un point de contact avec l'Angleterre, même avant Guillaume le Conquérant.
Ainsi, en 1003, sous le règne du Duc Richard II, le Roi d'Angleterre, Ethelred, décide d'envahir la Normandie. C'est à Barfleur qu'il débarque avec ses troupes. Les Normands prennent les armes sous la conduite de Néel, Seigneur de St-Sauveur-le-Vicomte, et infligent aux Anglais une telle défaite qu'il "en échappa à peine assez pour porter en Angleterre la nouvelle de ce désastre."

It was in Barfleur, along the quay at high tide... two trawlers, a small dory, and a ton of different shades of blue.

Barfleur was an important point of contact between Normandy and England even before the Conquest by Duke William.
In 1003, during Duke Richard II's reign, Ethelred, King of England, decides to invade Normandy and lands at Barfleur. The Normans take arms under the command of Neal, Lord of St-Sauveur-le-Vicomte, and defeat the English army so soundly that "barely enough escaped to bring back to England the news of the disaster".
