Les rayons du soleil d'automne dansent sur les galets, les ombres s'allongent, et la lumière du soir rebondit sur les deux barques échouéees sur la plage sous un ciel en bleu vêtu de voiles blanches.
Il y avait beaucoup plus de barques de pêcheurs quand Monet revient à Etretat en 1885 et peint La Plage à Etretat:
"Les bateaux se préparent pour les harengs, la plage est transformée, très animée - c'est très intéressant... Je viens de regarder le départ des bateaux de pêche, tous ensemble: c'est merveilleux, et je vais croquer un dessin tous les jours."
The warm rays of the autumn sun dance on the pebbles, shadows are getting longer, and the late afternoon light bounces on the two fishing dories moored on the beach under a deep blue sky dressed in long white veils.--------------------------------------
There were many more dories when Monet comes again to Etretat in 1885 and paints The Beach at Etretat:
"The boats are getting ready for herrings, the beach is transformed, very animated - it's very interesting... I just watched the departure of the fishing boats, all together: It's wonderful, and I am going to treat myself to a sketch of it every day."
