La route, étroite et sinueuse, se termine devant l'esplanade du phare de Gatteville. Il faut continuer à pied, et s'aventurer sur les galets de granit.
Même si le ciel est maussade, et que le vent vous fait perdre l'équilibre, la vue sur le phare vaut bien une photo.
Paul Signac est, avec Georges Seurat, l'inventeur du pointillisme.
Epris de la mer, Signac s'installe à Barfleur en 1932, dans une maison qui donne sur le port. Juste derrière, à quelques pas de la plage, il a une belle vue sur le phare de Gatteville. En 1934, il peint cette petite huile sur carton, qui est aujourd'hui au musée de Cherbourg.
The narrow and winding road ends abruptly in front of the lighthouse at Gatteville. From there, you have to continue on foot on the granite pebbles that line the shore.
Even if the sky is grey and the wind is pushing you down, the view of the lighthouse is well worth a picture.

He always loved the sea, and in 1932, he buys a house right on the harbor in Barfleur. From the beach, a few steps from his backyard, he enjoys a wonderful view of the lighthouse at Gattevile, a few miles to the North.
In 1934, he paints this small work on cardboard, which is now at the Art Museum in Cherbourg.

Wonderful composition, I love the low point of view and contrast of the foreground with that dramatic sky.
I like the curve of the shore leading into this lighthouse. What a grand view that would make for a house.
