A Grandcamp, les chalutiers s'alignent le long du quai, mais les petit bateaux de pêche s'amarrent à un ponton flottant dans le coin nord-est du bassin.
Alain est propriétaire d'un de ces petits bateaux, l'Ulysse II. Il pêche la crevette, le maquereau, ou le bar, soit pour vendre aux restaurants du pays, soit pour sa consommation personnelle. Il a pris sa retraite récemment, laissant son gros chalutier à son fils. Mais il ne pouvait pas rester à terre à longueur de journée, alors avec son Ulysse II, il peut répondre à l'appel de la mer.
Pour photographier ces bateaux, il faut mieux venir en fin d'après-midi, quand le soleil baisse sur l'horizon et réchauffe les couleurs.
Grandcamp-Maisy, avec sa trentaine de chalutiers de plus de 10m., est le deuxième port du Calvados, après Port-en-Bessin. On y débarque chaque année près de 2.000 tonnes de poissons, coquilles-St-Jacques et crustacés.
In Grandcamp, the trawlers line up along the quays, but smaller fishing boats are berthed along a floating pontoon in the northeastern corner of the harbor.
Alain owns of the these boats, the Ulysse II. He goes out looking for shrimp, mackerel, or sea bass, either to sell to local restaurants or for his personal consumption. He retired recently, leaving his large trawler to his son. But he missed the sea, and with his Ulysse II, he can answer her call.
To photograph the boats, you should come in late afternoon, when the sun gets low on the horizon and warms up the rich colors of the hulls.--------------------------------------
Grandcamp-Maisy, with a fleet of about 30 10 meter trawlers, is the second largest fishing port in the Calvados. About 2,000 tons of fish, scallops and other seafood is brought to market every year.
