Plages du Débarquement: La Pointe du Hoc

Pas facile d'obtenir un bon point de vue du bout de la Pointe du Hoc puisqu'on ne peut pas s'approcher du bord de la falaise. Cette vue est prise au téléobjectif depuis la limite du site du coté Est.

Cela fait 9 ans que l'accès au poste d'observation allemand au bout de la Pointe du Hoc, au bord de la falaise, était interdit.

Mais, en février 2010, le Congrès américain a débloqué 4 millions d'euros pour renforcer la falaise. En charge du site, l'American Battle Monument Commission a fait appel à une entreprise spécialisée en travaux à flan de montagne.
Après avoir enfoncé 5km de barres d'acier, coulé 500 tonnes de béton, et redonné à la façade de la falaise son aspect naturel, le chantier est presque achevé.
Une fois les graines prélevées sur le site semées, le chemin de promenade sécurisé et l'éclairage mis en place, ce qui est prévu pour la fin novembre, les visiteurs auront à nouveau accès au blockhaus.

It has been 9 years since the German observation post at the tip of the Point du Hoc, at the summit of the cliff, has been closed to the public.

But in February 2010, the US Congress granted 4 million euros to re-enforce the cliff face. The American Battle Monument Commission which manages the historic site contracted with a company specializing in construction work on mountain slopes. After having sunk 3 miles of steel bars and 500 tons of concrete, and restored the cliff face to its natural appearance, the work is just about finished.
Once the seeds collected on the site have germinated, the paths laid out and the lighting installed, visitors will again have access to the German blockhaus in late November.
