Moniteur à l'école de voile de Grandcamp, historien local et auteur des Chroniques Grandcopaises, correspondant de la Renaissance du Bessin, la force qui a mené l'Association du Torbouai et la restauration de la Grandcopaise, Jean-Michel Cattelain est décédé. Il avait 56 ans.
A notre Président Jean Michel Cattelain:
Le 17 février 2011, au soir, Jean Michel à pris son sac et s'en est allé pour sa dernière navigation en solitaire.
Depuis un certain temps, combien? Personne n'en saura jamais rien. Le mal rongeait l'homme debout derrière la barre. Le timonier s'en est allé, silencieux avec discrétion, au delà de l'horizon des mers où il retrouvera les autres marins de la terre.
Jean Michel Cattelain, marin et passionné d'histoire ne pouvait que s’intéresser à la Grandcopaise. Son engagement au sein de l'association «Torbouai du Bessin» est total.
Son sens de l'anticipation et aussi celui d'une recherche de cohésion de l'équipage pour une meilleure navigation, acquis par la pratique de la voile depuis 30 ans, profitent à la Grandcopaise, nous en sommes tous témoins. Jean Michel a su nous initier à l'univers des voileux, à l’humilité qu'un équipage doit toujours avoir en mémoire lorsqu'il est face aux éléments, mais aussi bien à terre lorsqu'il s'agit de rester solidaire et d’œuvrer ensemble pour la Grandcopaise.
A nous qui restons sur le pont sachons garder dans nos mémoires les marins d’hier. Retenons de Jean Michel que la pérennité d'une histoire comme celle de la Grandcopaise se construit tous les jours en se projetant et en anticipant.

On February 17, 2011, in the evening, Jean Michel packed his bags and took off for his last solo adventure.
It had been a while, nobody knows how long, that the disease was gaining on the man standing at the helm. The skipper is gone, silently, discreetly, over the horizon of the ocean where he will meet other sailors.
Jean Michel Cattelain, a sailor who loved history, had to have a passion for La Grandcopaise. His engagement in the Association du Torbouai was complete.
His desire to build a strong coherent team to sail the ship, honed in over 30 years of sailing, was a huge benefit to the Grandcopaise, as we can all attest.
Jean Michel knew how to initiate us into the universe of the sailors, to teach us the humility a crew must show in front of the dangers of the sea, but also when it's time to work together to keep the Grandcopaise in great shape.
For us who are staying on deck, let's keep in our memories the sailors of yesterday, let's learn from Jean-Michel that the story of the Grandcopaise gets built day by day with planning, hard work and commitment.
