Le Mont St-Michel

Que peut-on dire du Mont-Saint-Michel? Contentons-nous de citer Madame de Sévigné, qui écrivit à sa fille:

"Je voyais de ma chambre la mer et le Mont Saint Michel, (ce Mont si orgueilleux que vous avez vu si fier et qui vous a vue si belle)"

et Victor Hugo:

« Le Mont Saint Michel apparaît, de huit lieues en terre et de quinze en mer, comme une chose sublime, une pyramide merveilleuse assise sur un rocher énorme façonné et sculpté par le Moyen-Age, et ce bloc monstrueux a pour base, tantôt un désert de sable comme Chéops, tantôt la mer comme Ténériffe… »

What is there to say about the Mont-Saint-Michel? What's better than Madame de Sévigné in a letter to her daughter:

« From my room I saw the sea and Mont Saint Michel, (this Mount that you saw so proud and that saw you so beautiful) »

Or Victor Hugo:

« Mont Saint Michel appeared eight leagues from the land and fifteen leagues from the sea, sublime, a marvellous pyramid sitting on an enormous rock shaped and sculpted by the Middle Ages, with this monstrous block as its base, somewhere between the Cheops sand desert and the Tenerife Sea… »
