Dans le cadre du processus de normalisation du statut des « Braves » sur la plage d’Omaha Beach, à la suite de l’accord de principe du Ministre de l’Environnement, le Préfet de la Région Basse-Normandie a fait procéder cet hiver à une enquête publique qui concerne l’obtention d’une autorisation de 9 années, renouvelable, de maintien de ces sculptures à leur emplacement actuel.
L'enquête publique s'est terminée à la fin d'avril.
Voici le comuniqué de la municipalité de St-Laurent-sur-Mer:
Suite à l’enquête publique à laquelle le public a participé, le préfet du Calvados vient d’autoriser, par un arrêté en date du 23 avril, le maintien des « Braves » sur le domaine public maritime pour une durée d’au moins 9 ans (AOT renouvelable).
C’est une grande satisfaction pour la municipalité qui sollicite depuis septembre 2004 cette autorisation.
Nous tenons à vous remercier très vivement, aujourd’hui, du soutien que vous nous avez apporté par vos nombreux témoignages ; ils ont largement contribué à cette issue positive.
Désormais les Braves seront la figure emblématique de notre commune et de notre plage chargée d’histoire, symboles de liberté et courage.

In the framework of the normalization process for the situation of the « Braves » on the beach at Omaha Beach, following the agreement with the Environment Minister, the head of the Lower-Normandy region lauched a public inquiry last winter to review a proposal that would allow the sculpture to remain at its present location for nine years. The authorization would then come up for renewal.
This inquiry ended at the end of April.
Here is the official reaction of the town of St-Laurent-sur-Mer:
At the end of the public inquiry, which was opened to the public, the Prefet of the Calvados has just authorized, through an ordnance dated April 23rd, the « Braves » to remain on the maritime public domain for a period of at least 9 years (a renewable term).
It is with the greatest satisfaction that the town's government, which fought for this authorization since 2004, shares this information.
We want to thank all those who supported our action with their comments and their presentations. They contributed very strongly to the success of our request.
From now on, the Braves will be the iconic figure of our town and our historic beach, and a symbol of freedom and courage.
